FAQs

Is the BabyDam® safe for my baby?

Yes!  BabyDam® is made of very high quality materials that are BPA free, phthalate free, formaldehyde free, lead free and safety tested.  Used properly, BabyDam® will give you years of faithful service!  Remember, never leave your baby unattended in the bathtub.

Will the BabyDam® fit my bathtub?

We have two available sizes to ensure that most standard-size and standard shaped tubs, with a smooth bottom surface, can be equipped with a BabyDam® bathtub divider.  To check the bottom surface of your tub - run your hand along the  surface, if it feels bumpy, or rough the BabyDam® will will not work in your tub.  If it is slightly etched or rippled but feels smooth then BabyDam® should work in your tub.  The smoother the surface the better the suction cups will stick.

If you are not sure if the BabyDam® will work in your tub, please email a picture of your tub (including a photo that shows the bottom surface) to info@babydamusa.com.  We will be happy to help you determine if it will work.

If the inside width of your bath tub is LESS THAN 22.5 inches wide, order the BabyDam® in European size.

See additional fitting & sizing information here.

Can I use the BabyDam® at either end of the bathtub?

Yes. BabyDam® can be fitted at any point along a standard shaped bath.

You can fill it with a shower head, or bucket if you are using it at the non-tap end of the bath. If you do this, you will need to remove BabyDam® by the normal method with the water still in place.

If the bathtub is wet, can I still install the BabyDam®?

Yes. You have to soak the suction pads thoroughly to stick to the bath anyway, so moisture will not affect its fitting.

I have wet the suction pads but the BabyDam® is not staying in place, does this mean the BabyDam® is faulty?

No, there must be a problem in the fitting.  If the bottom surface of your tub is smooth, then make sure it is clean and free of soap residue. Then wipe the surface of each suction cup with a dry towel, wet the suction cups, install the BabyDam squarely in your tub, not crooked.  Be sure to press down firmly so the gasket flattens out, then while holding the BabyDam® in place press firmly down on each suction cup housing.  If you are still having problems please click on the video link below.

How do I know how much water to fill the bath with?

With a newborn, it is important to fill it with water to just above the baby's shoulders to keep the infant warm.

Once your child is able to sit up, the bath can be filled to a higher depth by fitting one of the plugs supplied into the safety porthole. Remember - never leave your baby unattended in the bathtub!

There is also a clear mark on the BabyDam® for the recommended maximum water depth to help you.
